Usage notes[সম্পাদনা]
- In many instances where we would use the adjective “Roman” or the phrase “of Rome,” the Anglo-Saxons often wrote literally “of the Romans”: Rōmāna rīċe (“the Roman Empire”), Rōmāna cāsere (“the Roman Empire”), Rōmāna folc (“the people of Rome”), Rōmāna bisċop (“the bishop of Rome”). This was consistent with the usage of other ethnonyms: Engla cwēn (“the queen of England,” literally “queen of the ইংরেজি”), Crēca hēafodburg (“the capital of Greece,” literally “capital of the গ্রিকs”), etc.
