[সম্পাদনা]১৫শ শতকে অভিধানে সংযুক্ত করা হয়। মধ্যযুগীয় ইংরেজি accusative থেকে, Anglo-Norman accusatif বা Middle French acusatif বা লাতিন accūsātīvus (“having been blamed”) থেকে, accūsō (“to blame”) থেকে। accuse + -ative এর সমতুল্য।
