ব্যুৎপত্তি

এর উৎস সংস্কৃত পাল (pāla) as -আল, and then developing the extension া to form -আলা। According to Chatterji এবং Sukumar Sen this was influenced in spelling by the cognate in Hindustani -वाला (-vālā)/والا (vālā) during the 19th century, rendering the modern spelling.

ব্যবহার টীকা

Though the spelling suggests the suffix be pronounced ẇala, it is seldom pronounced that way because the word is a native বাংলা word and is pronounced ala in the native manner. The spelling, as mentioned before, comes from Hindustani and does not hold sway in the pronunciation.
