Biswas suggests it to be a compound of its dialectal variant সেজার or synonym ছেদার, attributed as tatsamas despite a lack of basis, and সংস্কৃত रूप (রূপ)। Chatterji, Das, and Sen suggest it to be a compound of সেঁজা (“porcupine”) + -রু (“similarity, intensity”); the former being from Late Prakrit 𑀲𑁂𑀚𑁆𑀚𑀅 (সে়জ্জঅ), from লুয়া ত্রুটি মডিউল:parameters এর 290 নং লাইনে: Parameter 2 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "inc-mgd" is not valid.
