Emperor Heraclius and Companion Abu Sufian Razi. Its dialogue
Seventh Hijri, 629 AD. The Treaty of Hudaybiyyah was signed by the Prophet (PBUH) with the infidel Quraish of Makkah. Quraish who used to burn when they heard the name of Islam, today those Quraish clearly recognized Islam as a powerful religion. The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) came to the mouth of the river and heard the roar of the ocean in the current of his Sadhana. So he decided to convey the good message of Islam to the powerful kings of the world. Rome and Persia were the most powerful empires in the world at that time. Emperor Heraclius was the ruler of the Roman Empire. The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) sent him the letter of invitation to Islam. Emperor Heraclius was staying in Jerusalem at the time. Meanwhile, Quraysh leader Abu Sufyan (not yet converted to Islam) was staying in Syria on business. On the authority of Abdullah bin Abbas (RA), he was informed by Abu Sufyan bin Harb that once the Roman Emperor Heraclius sent him along with a group of Quraysh. At that time they were staying in Syria on business. At that time the Prophet (PBUH) was bound by the Treaty of Hudaybiya with Abu Sufyan and Quraish. When the emperor Heraclius was in Jerusalem with his retinue, they arrived at the emperor's court. Emperor Heraclius summoned them to his council. Around him were the Roman leaders. Then he called the Quraysh and his interpreter and said, "Who among you is closest in lineage to the one who claims to be a prophet among you?" Abu Sufyan said, then I said, I am the closest person to him in lineage. Emperor Heraclius ordered to bring him to me and to call his companions and follow him. Then the emperor said to his interpreter, "Tell them, I will question this man about him [(the Messenger of God)]. If he tells me a lie, prove him a liar." Abu Sufyan said, "By Allah." If I had not been afraid that people would accuse me of lying, then I would have told lies about the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). The emperor first asked me, who is claiming to be a prophet, how is his lineage? Abu Sufyan: He is of noble descent among us. Emperor: Has anyone among you ever said such a thing before him? Abu Sufyan: No. Emperor: Were any of his ancestors kings? Abu Sufyan: No. Emperor: Are the powerful following him, or the weak? Abu Sufyan: The poor and weak class people. Emperor: Is their number increasing day by day or decreasing? Abu Sufyan: No, rather increasing. Emperor: Does any of them, after entering into that religion, abandon it because of his disdain for his religion? Abu Sufyan: No. Emperor: Do you slander him as a liar before receiving prophethood? Abu Sufyan: No. Emperor: Has he ever broken a promise? Abu Sufyan: No. But we have entered into a treaty with him for a certain period of time, I don't know what he will do during this time? Abu Sufyan (later) said, It was not possible for me to say anything against him other than this. Emperor: Did you fight with him? Abu Sufyan: Yes. Emperor: What is the outcome of the war? Abu Sufyan: The outcome of the war between him and us is like taking turns to draw water in a bucket. That is, he won in some and we won in some. Emperor: What does he instruct you? Abu Sufyan: He said, worship Allah alone. Do not associate anything with him. And abandon what your fathers and grandfathers used to say. He asks us to establish Salat, always speak the truth, refrain from indecent and forbidden acts, and keep the bonds of kinship intact. Sir Heraclius said to the interpreter, "Tell him, I have asked you about his lineage." You replied, He is of noble birth among you. In fact, the Prophets were sent to noble families of their people. I asked you, did any of you say this (about being a prophet)? You answered, no. I want to say - if someone had said this before him, then surely I could say that he is a person who repeats the previous words. I asked you, was there a king among his ancestors? You answered, no. I want to say - if there was a king among his ancestors, then I would say that he is a person who wants to restore the fatherland. I asked you, did you slander him before you received his prophethood? You answered, no. So I understand that he is not a person who will lie about people and lie about Allah. I asked you, are powerful people following him, or innocent-weak people? You replied, the innocent and the weak are following him. In fact, the innocent and weak people are the followers of the Prophets. I asked you, are they increasing in number or decreasing? You replied, increasing. The matter of faith remains like this till the time of perfection. I asked you, has anyone entered his religion and abandoned it after being dismayed? You answered, no. In fact, this is what happens when the brightness and liveliness of faith is mixed with the heart. I asked you, did he break any promises? You answered, no. Prophets are like that. Don't break promises. I asked you, what instructions does he give you? You replied, He commanded you to worship Allah alone and not to associate anything with Him. He forbids you to worship idols and commands you to establish prayer, speak the truth and be pure. If what you say is true, he will be fortunate enough to own the place (Syria) below my rank in a very short time. I knew for sure that he would appear. But I could not think that he would be among you. Had I known that I could properly reach him, I would have taken all possible pains to meet him. And if I had been near him, I would have washed his feet. Then Emperor Heraclius asked to bring the letter of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH), with which the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) had sent the companion Dehya Kalbi (RA) to the ruler of Basra. When the king of Basra handed over the letter to Sarat Heraclius, he read it. The letter was as follows- I begin in the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Merciful. To Heraclius, Emperor of Rome, on behalf of Muhammad, the servant of God and His Messenger. Peace be upon those who follow the right path. Then, I invite you to Islam. Accept Islam, you will be safe. Allah will reward you twice. And if you turn away, the sins of all the people will fall on you. O People of the Book! Come to a word, which is common between us and you, that we worship none but Allah, and that we associate nothing with Him, and that none of us take as lords other than Allah. If they turn away, say to them, 'Be witnesses that we are Muslims' (Al-Imran 64). Abu Sufyan said, ... From then on I believed that he would soon win. Finally, Almighty Allah gave me Tawfik to accept Islam (Sahih Muslim 1773). Alauddin Azmi (আলাপ) ০৫:৪৭, ১৬ জুলাই ২০২৪ (ইউটিসি)
