From প্রত্ন-ইন্দো-আর্য *śrútiṣ, from প্রত্ন-ইন্দো-ইরানীয় *ćrútiš, from প্রত্ন-ইন্দো-ইউরোপীয় *ḱlú-ti-s, from *ḱlew- (“to hear”). Cognate with Old English hlūd (whence ইংরেজি loud), লিথুয়ানীয় klausa, প্রত্ন-Slavic *sluxъ (whence পোলিশ słuch, রুশ слух (slux), আদি চার্চ স্ল্যাভোনিক слоухъ (sluxŭ) (Glagolitic spelling ⱄⰾⱆⱈⱏ (sluxŭ)), বুলগেরীয় слух (sluh)). Equivalent to श्रु (শ্রু) +‎ -ति (-তি).
