From the root ن و ر‎ (n-w-r)] whence نَار‎ (nār, “fire”), because quicklime, calcium oxide, also known as burnt lime, and حِجَارَة مَشْوِيَّة‎ (ḥijāra mašwiyya, literally “burnt stones”)], is produced by thermolysis of calcium-rich material.
